As most of you will know by now we have had some sad family news in that our Granny B has had a stroke and is quite poorly. We have spent the last two weeks in her cottage in a retirement village on the south coast and have cleared her house and settled her into a care home. It has been difficult to decide how long to stay here but we feel that she is now relatively stable and are looking to set off next Sunday. Our first stop will be with Alistair and Joy in Zimbabwe.
We still don't have a 'proper' route planned but we now know that we will no longer go through Egypt or come up through Europe. The main reason is that it is incredibly complicated to take a vehicle into Egypt. We would have had to deposit eight times the value of our car and leave the money locked up without earning interest until the end of the trip. If the car was to get stolen in Egypt we would not get our money back and to make matters worse you cannot get car insurance for Egypt. As things stand we will go as far as Ethiopia and perhaps into Sudan depending on the situation when we get there, then head back south but take a more western route. The advantage of this is that we will be doing a lot less driving and spent more time in each destination.
We love hearing from you all and get very excited when we get new comments posted on the blog so please keep it up!
You could try travelling up Sani pass and across Lesotho for some cooler weather, and proper 4x4 roads.
ReplyDeleteHi Guys
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your family problems. Good to hear you are finally on the move. As for the weather, you lucky so and so’s.... Looks beautiful, just like Farmoor reservoir on a winter’s day lol!! You have managed to escape the worst possible June on record apparently, so lucky we are not camping this year ah? Sounds like you got some exciting times ahead of you, for us, just Spain v Italy finals tomorrow – come on Assuri make my day.
Watch out for the black and white rhino on your travels apparently they definitely don’t indicate, bit like me realy. Do you get to see the Red Sea and coral reefs in Sudan? Bet that will be amazing.
Looking good guys, keep safe.

Hi Guys
ReplyDeleteJust in case you decide to come home one day, Don, London Irish have been promoted to the premiership and they will play at the Kassam in Oxford as their home ground, now that’s some great rugby to look forward to. Not that that will make you both think 'wow can’t wait to get back'. I am now a London Irish fan.
How's your tent erecting skills coming on, still you haven’t got wind and rain to contend with. You waded through your first crock infested river yet?
Hope all Cool your end

I just don't get it. If you've seen one elephant you've seen them all! Besides autumn has just arrived, which is refreshing, and we have just been to the Grapes.
